Saving Rabbit is an intimate documentary journey into the opioid crisis through the eyes of Peter, aka “Rabbit”, a 26-year-old addict navigating the difficult path towards recovery. Rabbit found his way to Fentanyl by stealing his father’s prescribed medicine and their relationship has been fractured ever since. Through the story of Rabbit we explore the recovery process and the complicated, controversial argument of harm reduction vs. abstinence that continues to be debated at all levels of the community, and within the halls of government, while thousands continue to die. An advocate of harm reduction, Rabbit believes he can still find a normal life while using drugs until he is ready to stop. On the other side of the argument is Julian, who has been in recovery from opioid addiction for 2 years. He believes harm reduction is a trap and is passionate about helping others follow an abstinence-based approach to sobriety. Julian hopes his own example will encourage Rabbit find the will to change his life before it’s too late.
